Attendance
The importance of punctual and regular attendance for every student is vital. A good attendance record has a direct effect on academic achievement. Any student who is absent must have a parent/guardian notify the school, in writing, in order to excuse the student’s absence. When a student returns to school they will need signed letter providing notification that states the reason for absence. Sending a note to school does NOT ensure the absence will be approved as an excused absence. A daytime phone number should be included on all
letters. Listed below are valid reasons for excused absences.
Personal illnesses,
A death or serious illness in the immediate family,
Recognized religious holidays observed by the family’s faith,
Absences mandated by order or governmental agencies,
Conditions which render school attendance impossible or hazardous to health and safety.
Individual students who have emergencies necessitating their absence from school for a portion of the school day must be present for the majority of the school day in order to be considered present. Students checked out prior to 11:30 a.m. will be counted absent for the day.
Our school hours are from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. It is both the parent and student’s responsibility to be punctual and remain in attendance for the entire school day. Students are expected to make up assignments missed due to tardiness or early checkout. Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. must be checked in through the office by a parent or guardian. Students are considered tardy after 8:15 a.m. Except in the event of an emergency, there will be no checkouts after 2:00 p.m. Chronic tardies and excessive early check-outs negatively impact academic achievement. Therefore, we encourage you to consider the times appointments are made for your child(ren). Tardies and early check-outs will affect a students’ opportunity to receive perfect attendance recognition. Perfect attendance is a student being at school all day, every day!
A student is considered truant if he/she has five or more unexcused absences. The school will contact the parent or guardian to notify them of the unexcused absences and possible consequences under the State Board of Education Rule 160-5-1-10. Please be aware that once a student has reached 7 excused and unexcused absences a doctor’s note will be required for each subsequent absence. Continued absenteeism will result in your case being referred to the attendance review committee and the county social worker. Students absent 10 or more consecutive days will be withdrawn.

Behavior Management
Summary of classroom rules/expectations:
We use the school wide PBIS system and STAR rules/expectations.
Consequences for choosing not to comply:
Students who choose not to comply will lose points which correspond with -1 (make better choices) or -4 red (inappropriate behavior) have time off recess, time out in another class or visit with an administrator.
Summary of encouragement / reinforcement plan:
Students are encouraged and come in each day with a ‘clean slate’ on our behavior chart. The Class Dojo points system is used for our behavior management plan. This is software available online and via an app on my cell phone. Students are able to earn and/or have points taken away in class, the hall, during lunch, etc. The areas in which students may earn points are helping others, listening and following directions, on task, participating, walking in line, silent in the hall, working hard. The areas in which students may lose points are being up out of seat often, disrespect, jumping/running in the hall, off task, talking in the hall, talking out of turn. Students start each day with a blank slate. 4+ points = a blue day (model citizen), 0-3 points = a green day (on the right track), -3 to -1 points = a yellow day (make better choices) and -4 points+ = a red day (unacceptable behavior). Any student who earns 10 points in one day gets a VERY special prize that is something he/she is interested in. The students love to hear they earned a point for helping others. We call it a “bonus point” because it’s given for going out of the way to do something to help out in some way. Students are also rewarded with STAR Bucks. Tables have a reward system using table points. The table that gets to 24 points first wins a reasonable prize of choice. We also have a class reward system using a Mr. Potato Head toy. Parts for Mr. Potato Head are earned when the class is caught being good and earn a compliment from a staff member as a class. Once we put together Mr. Potato Head the class will earn some free choice time.
Methods used to contact parents regarding behavior problems:
Parents are kept informed by written communication in the Bring Everything Everyday (BEE) books, email and phone calls.

Grading
Elementary report cards describing a student's progress will be sent to parents and/or guardians at the end of four, nine-week, reporting periods. In order for student grades to accurately reflect a student’s knowledge of the grade level AKS, Anderson-Livsey ES will provide students with a grade report approximately every four weeks listing each subject and the corresponding grade.
Kindergarten student grading is as follows:
E = Excellent
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs Improvement
U = Unsatisfactory
